Artificial Intelligence [ AI ]

We have begun exploring how to integrate cutting edge AI design tools into our workflows. At the moment, they have been fairly limited due to the nature how the programs function; you provide a text based prompt and then the AI instantly develops a set of images it believes satisfies the prompt.

While this is powerful tool for idea generation, we have only found it useful in a few specific use cases. We’ve shared a few examples of AI imagery we’ve developed below.

We will be sharing additional thoughts on the strengths and weaknesses of the tools in the coming months. Subscribe below to be notified when they are available.

Material Studies

We have found we can quickly generate and evaluate numerous material combinations that may not have been considered otherwise. Although the images never relate to a real design, they can still help push boundaries of creativity by producing a large number unique configurations, very quickly. The material combinations that resonate with our clients can be used to shape the design language for their project.

Detailing

AI can’t design a site-specific home yet but we have found that it can be useful at generating small portions of a design. This can be useful in explore a large number of unusual detail configurations, very quickly.

Similar to material composition studies, AI generated detail imagery that can serve as seeds to develop a design language for a project.
